It assists boards and managers to identify areas of short and long term risk (e.g. reputational, fiduciary, financial, IT, HR, OSH, force majeur), to assess them on a scale of probability and impact, and develop strategies to monitor and manage them.

It does the same with opportunity gains/possibilities and scales them against an opportunity loss matrix.
